Body Image
We live in an appearance-based society influenced by diet culture and pressure to conform to a certain body ideal. We are quickly stripped of the innate trust we had for our bodies at birth, as we take in harmful messaging around us related to health, beauty, body size and shape. Ultimately, we may no longer trust or accept our bodies. We may experience feelings of shame and cope through efforts to control our body’s appearance. These intrusive thoughts and feelings may take such a strong hold over us that they dictate our life’s choices and impact our overall quality of life. They may cause interference in our relationships, at work or school, and lead to symptoms of anxiety and depression.
There is another way…
Individual therapy provides space to unlearn harmful messaging, cultivate self-compassion and practice acceptance through a Health at Every Size® lens. Together, we can confront body shame as we work to develop body acceptance and body neutrality. Body neutrality and acceptance helps us shift from a stance of dislike for our bodies to one of respect and appreciation. You can learn to care for your body again from a neutral perspective and reconnect with your self-worth as separate from your physical appearance. By making peace with your body, you will find the freedom to discover what truly matters so you can live your life in a meaningful, values-driven way.
